The best way to reach Taipu de Fora is by renting a car at Ilhéus Airport. Given that it is a small airport, we highly recommend booking your rental car in advance. While a 4×4 vehicle is ideal due to the poor road conditions, an ordinary car can do just fine. But during the rainy season, roads can get pretty rough, which might seriously lengthen your travel time.

Second option is to take a bus + boat + taxi. You can take a bus from Ilhéus to Camamu, a journey of about 3 hours. From Camamu, board a fast boat to Barra Grande. This 40-minute boat ride is scenic, offering stunning views of the coastline and crystal-clear waters. Upon arriving in Barra Grande, you can take a local taxi to Taipu de Fora, which is just a 30-minute drive away.

For those traveling from Salvador, you need to take a ferry to Bom Despacho and then catch a bus to Camamu. The wait time for the ferry can often be long.
