Tukad Cepung hike
Is the Tukad Cepung hike difficult?
The hike to Tukad Cepung Waterfall is considered moderate, but it may be challenging for those who are not used to trekking or have mobility issues. However, the path is well-maintained and there are railings installed in certain areas to assist with the descent. Just make sure to wear appropriate shoes and take your time while walking.
What to expect?
Once you arrive at the parking lot, you will have to trek down for around 15 minutes through a narrow path and some steep stairs. The journey may seem challenging, but it is certainly worth it once you catch a glimpse of the breathtaking waterfall.
Once you reach the bottom of the stairs, turn right at the riverbed to find a smaller waterfall surrounded by leafy jungle. It’s a great spot for a refreshing natural shower. If you go left, you’ll come across a rocky path that leads to Tukad Cepung.
During the last leg of the hike, you’ll need to traverse a shallow river bed and navigate around large boulders. It’s best to wear sandals for this part of the hike. Sandals can be worn throughout the entire hike or you can bring a waterproof bag to store your tennis shoes and switch to flip-flops for the last leg of the hike.
The Cave Waterfall
What makes Tukad Cepung Waterfall stand out from other waterfalls in Bali is its unique location. Here, you will find yourself walking through a narrow passage between two rocks before finally reaching the hidden cave where the waterfall is nestled. The combination of the sunlight streaming through the top opening of the cave and the cascading water creates a mesmerizing sight that is truly unforgettable.
Best time of the day to visit Tukad Cepung Waterfall
Tukad Cepung Waterfall is best visited during the early morning (before 9 AM) or late afternoon (after 4 PM). During these times, you can witness the rays of sunlight creating a rainbow effect on the waterfall, adding to its mystical charm.
The optimal time for the light rays is typically considered to be from 9am to 11am. However, we’ve heard that it can get quite busy during that time. So, I suggest going to the waterfall before 9am.
We arrived a little after 7am. It would have been too early before that because the cave was still very dark. However, within 10 minutes, the lighting improved. Visiting in the early morning is recommended to avoid crowds. We had the cave and waterfall all to ourselves and enjoyed the experience.
